On November 24, 2024, we held a UUCPA congregational meeting where members overwhelmingly approved completing the Campus Vision project with a total budget of $2,855,000.
At that time, we were planning to submit our plans to the City of Palo Alto Building Department for permit approval on December 1. Unfortunately, the architectural pre-review took longer than expected, and we were not allowed to submit our plans for the building permit before the approval of the architectural pre-review, as we had hoped. As a result, our plans did not get submitted until January 15, 2025. We are expecting the city’s first round of feedback any day now, and we hope to have final permit approval in March.
Meanwhile, we received bids from five general contractors. We have been evaluating their bids and discussing them with the contractors, the architect, and our owner’s representative. We will interview the contractors over the next couple of weeks and plan to have a contractor selected by mid-March. At that point, we will negotiate and adjust the project scope in order to finalize the price before signing the contract.
We are working to have a contractor contract signed and our permit approved by the end of March so that construction can start in April. Mayo Tsuzuki and Jane Chronis have been working with various groups on campus so everyone will be ready for construction. If you have questions about the impact of the construction, please email them at relocation@uucpa.org.
As always, if you have general questions about the Campus Vision project, email campus@uucpa.org.
We’re looking forward to breaking ground this spring!
