Campus Vision Update

The Campus Vision Task Force wants to give you an update on what’s been happening with our campus vision project. We’ve had a few bumps in the road, and wanted to catch you up on where things stand.

You may remember that we hired Karin Payson as our architect in April 2022. She helped the congregation determine our goals for our campus vision project, and in November, the congregation voted to move ahead with the project after her presentation at a congregational meeting. We again hired Karin in 2023 to design and supervise construction, and she completed the Schematic Design phase. For the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, Karin hired Point Energy Innovations (PEI). Unfortunately, PEI’s service was unsatisfactory and UUCPA decided to stop working with PEI in December 2023, and Karin resigned in February. So those were the bumps.

The good news is that (with much-needed help from the new task force co-chair, Randy Helmonds) we began a search for a replacement firm in January 2024 to replace PEI. We’re happy to announce we signed a contract with MK Engineers in March. Feedback about them is they are competent, detail-oriented, flexible, and thorough–yay!  We feel confident they will be able to meet our needs, and we look forward to working with them starting this month.

We’ve also found two candidates for an architect replacement, both with experience on the complex needs of church projects. We are looking at their submitted proposals, and will choose one in the next few weeks.

As can often happen with such large, complicated projects, we’ve hit a few bumps, but our campus vision project is now moving ahead in a good direction.

As usual please address any questions to campus@uucpa.org or to one of the task force members.
