Dismantling White Supremacy: Action for Fair Chance Housing
UUCPA’s Dismantling White Supremacy group meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. This Tuesday, October 8, 2024, we’ll learn about an opportunity to have a significant effect on housing justice in Palo Alto. The Human Relations Commission (HRC) will be considering a Fair Chance Housing ordinance at its meeting this Thursday. Usually, only landlords address the HRC at such meetings, so our advocacy as community members will be particularly impactful.
Amy will distill the information from the ten-page staff report and give some background on how this proposal can help reverse a form of systemic racism that is embedded in our housing laws.
Then we’ll prepare statements to send to the HRC before Thursday or, for those who are available and willing, to share aloud with the HRC during their meeting. As members of a Palo Alto congregation, we are all stakeholders whose opinions are welcome by the HRC. You need not live in Palo Alto!
