Memorial service for Sylvia Whitcher

We will gratefully remember the life of Sylvia Bennett Lyman Whitcher on Thursday, April 22, at 12 noon Pacific time. Sylvia died on January 23 in her home at The Terraces, Los Altos, at the age of 95. She was a member of UUCPA for many years, latterly involved in Elder Journey along with her husband, Sylvan Rubin, whom she met at the church. Sylvan died in 2018.

Sylvia frequently played the piano for services, and even composed a choral setting for one of the readings in our hymnal, which the UUCPA choir premiered in 1984. She was a passionate reader, lover of life and learning, and the loved and loving mother of three children who benefited from her encouragement to live as boldly and independently as she did.
