The Resonant Reading group, an exploration of ideas, feelings, and our life experiences using a different short reading as our springboard each time, meets on Saturdays at 4 pm and Wednesdays at noon via Zoom. All are wide open and you are welcome to come twice a week or once in a while. All you need is an enthusiasm for talking with others about ideas, experiences, and the wisdom we can find in words.
Here are the next 2 readings
Saturday, January 11th
The ‘text’ for this week’s discussion is the painting Tintern Abbey in a bend of the Wye, by William Havell (1782-1857).
For those interested in homework, you can read to your heart’s content in Wikipedia, esp. sections on ‘In the visual arts’, ‘Gallery’, and ‘Literature’, but no advance prep is needed or expected.
Wednesday, January 15th
And whom do I call my enemy?
An enemy must be worthy of engagement.
I turn in the direction of the sun and keep walking.
It’s the heart that asks the question, not my furious mind.
The heart is the smaller cousin of the sun.
It sees and knows everything.
It hears the gnashing even as it hears the blessing.
The door to the mind should only open from the heart.
An enemy who gets in, risks the danger of becoming a friend.
