At their December 11 meeting, the UUCPA Board of Trustees approved a letter to be sent to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, supporting the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band in its efforts to protect Juristac and prevent the Sargent Ranch Quarry Project proposed for that land by the Debt Acquisition Company of America. The decision as to whether to approve the project rests with the Board of Supervisors.
In the letter, which can be read here, the Board refers to principles of Unitarian Universalism, environmentalism, and anti-racism to explain its support for preserving the sacred ground of the Amah Mutsun people.
The UUCPA Action Council sent a supportive letter to the Palo Alto City Council last month, and the City Council has itself voiced its support for the Amah Mutsun’s position.
If you would like to add your voice, it is welcome whether or not you live in Santa Clara County, since you are a member of a faith community in the county. The tribal band has a petition here, and you can send the Board of Supervisors your thoughts here.
