Showing up for Trans Justice: A Welcoming Congregation Class – Apr 24, 7:15 pm

April 22nd, 2023 by

Transgender and non-binary people in states across the nation, especially trans youth and their families, are facing a torrent of anti-trans legislation aimed at erasing them from public life and cutting off gender-affirming services. Unitarian Universalists in these states are on the front lines, working to protect the dignity and rights of trans people, including trans UU’s.

Drawing on a recent webinar from the UUA, UUCPA’s Welcoming Congregation team hopes you’ll join us to learn about the wave of anti-trans legislation that’s targeting our trans siblings in other states and talk about what UU’s in California’s Bay Area can do to help defend trans rights.

Date: Monday, April 24, 2023
Time: 7:15 to 8:45 pm
Location: online by Zoom
Presenters: Matt Rosin and Susan Owicki
Zoom information will be shared on the email list welcoming@uucpa.org. You can join that list by emailing welcoming+subscribe@uucpa.org. If you have any questions, please email us at welcoming+owner@uucpa.org.

Special session of Dismantling White Supremacy – Apr 25 @ 7:15 pm

April 22nd, 2023 by

Local Housing Crisis
Tuesday April 25, 7:15 to 8:45
Guest speakers: Sheryl Klein of Alta Housing and Amie Ashton of Palo Alto Forward

This presentation will discuss how our local and regional history and current economic conditions have contributed to our lack of housing options, especially with regard to affordable housing. We will take a deep dive into the housing crisis and talk about its context, causes, impacts on the most vulnerable people and the environment, and (importantly) actions we can all take to change things for the better.

Sheryl Klein is Alta Housing’s COO. Prior to her current position, she spent five years on Alta’s Board of Directors. During her time as Board Chair, she led Alta Housing’s Wilton Court project through entitlements, development and funding. At Alta, she is responsible for strategic initiatives and planning.

Amie Ashton is Palo Alto Forward’s Executive Director. She has an extensive background in housing having worked for project civil engineers, developers, and environmental consultants, as well as several Bay Area cities.

If you would like to attend this session and are not subscribed to the Dismantling White Supremacy email list, please email dismantlingwhitesupremacy+subscribe@uucpa.org. Zoom information for the session will be sent to this list early next week. We welcome new attendees at any time!
