The Annual Pledge Drive (Canvas)
The church is supported primarily by donations from members and friends. Each year, we are asked to pledge our support according to our means. The Pledge Drive results are then used to determine the budget for the coming year.
Each year in November, the church auctions goods and services at a wonderful party. Members donate everything from homemade jam to a condo in Mexico, and they are bid in silent auction, or for the best items, a live (and lively) auction. One favorite item that gets competitive bidding is a convenient parking slot for a year.
The Bookstore and UUsed Books
UUCPA’s book store is open before and after our Sunday services. It is located in the lobby of the Main Hall and is staffed by church volunteers. All proceeds are donated to UUCPA.
In a church that has no “doctrine,” each individual is responsible for developing his/her own religious perspective. Thus, our main thrust is to provide material that will inform and inspire those who are on a spiritual path, and those who are looking for one.
The Bookstore also manages a used book exchange. The UUsed book are located in a storage room off the Main Hall Lobby. You can leave donations there at any time. Two or three times a year, the Bookstore staff sells donated books. Unsold books are donated to Friends of the Palo Alto Library, but there usually are few of those.
The Church Yard Sale
Each year in the fall, the church hosts a Yard Sale. This allows members to recycle usable goods to our neighbors as well as our members.
Each year in January or February, the church hosts a sale of gift-quality items to support our Social Justice work in the community.
